Clarries Care“Clarries Cares” was launched in 2007 and has been running successfully for over a year. It is a group of Grade 6 and 7 children who give of themselves and their time to our community to show they really do care! The children, assisted by our staff, have participated in many fantastic projects.

One of the favourite projects each term is to visit Animal Welfare to walk the dogs and groom the cats. The children enjoy this project so much that we decided to raffle a soft toy to raise funds for them. This was well supported by all family and friends of our “Clarries Cares” children. Another highlight is visiting the Munro Kirk Old Age Home and Cheshire Homes in Summerstrand, for a few rounds of Bongo over a cup of tea. We always have a delightful time and have, on occasion, ended up around the piano singing a tune or two. Early morning watering points have also been great fun!

Most of the races we’ve been involved in raise funds for a charity which makes it even more meaningful for children. Some of these races have been: Tops Men’s race; Childline race; Lake Farm Charity Race; Caltex/Algoa FM Big Walk for Cansa; Builder’s Warehouse Fun Run; Walmer 15km Race; André van Collier Memorial race, Profiles Fun race and the GM Ultra Bay Marathon. We have even won “The Best Watering Point” on one or two occasions as spirits are always high!

Once a year we hold a car wash at BP Walmer Gardens. This has proved great fun for all, especially those who used the high-pressure hose. The funds raised on the day have gone to Reach-for-a-dream and the Ilitha Pre-Primary School in Walmer Township. BPSA has always generously matched our total, Rand for Rand, each year which has given our donations a great boost!

Around the corner from our school is a place of safety for abandoned children (age 0 – 3). It has been very rewarding to visit and be part of ‘Isithembiso’. As a result, some of our children have chosen to volunteer in their own time to play with these precious children up to the age of 13. Once a year we join them at happy Valley for a picnic. Other Projects include: card-making and toy-making workshops for the Aurora Special Care Centre, gardening at Khaya-Cheshire homes, a clean-up at the beach and at Bayworld.

The children in “Clarries Cares” have been fantastic and have grown in themselves and their ability to see the needs of those around them! We look forward to our projects.

Love Sandwiches

‘Love Sandwiches’ runs successfully every Thursday. The sandwiches are still greatly appreciated by those inour community who receive them.

Loaves & Fishes

Everyone is familiar with Wednesdays’ collections for Loaves and Fishes.  The main object of this fund is to collect monies and when approached by Associations, to support needy charities by sending them a suitable donation.  It was decided that it is important to support our immediate “Clarendon Park family.” -  “charity begins at home” so a large amount of the monies collected was used to clothe, feed and supply necessities for some of the less fortunate pupils at our school.  Money has been donated to, among others, Clarries Cares, CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation, Heart Foundation, Chief Cornerstone Children’s Home, React Meals, Wabamkele Feeding Fund, Operation Smile, C.K. Bonnesse Accident Fund, Council for Disabled, Lake Farm Centre, Girls and Boys Town, Operation Hunger, Cancer Association, Kleinskool Mission, Kennedy Githinji Trust Fund, Aurora, Isipho HIV and Aids Project, etc.
